Unexpected delights

If I had known we were going to be around all summer, I would have planted a garden.

Yet, I found myself cultivating this little beauty that popped up from a potted plant.

A renegade tomato plant! Some of the joys of composting come as a surprise.

We already ate two tomotoes and there are two more growing.

Nothing feels more like summer than a fresh tomato.

A little olive oil, basil and mozzarella? We've had so little sun this spring/summer that my tomatoes are coming along slowwwwwly. It'll be a late harvest this year.

Love the title of this post - looking on the bright side of a frustrating situation.

My neighbor called those compost surprises "volunteers". Enjoy!

Fresh tomatoes are one of life's most awesome pleasures.

Mmmmm, things out of your own garden always taste better too!

Ohhh! How I miss REAL tomatoes! A real treat to Santiaguinos! If I had a square foot of land I'd grow myself a tomato!
My very Santiaguino (big city boy) husband doesn't know the difference between a Rocky and a REAL tomato-- if it's red and round, it's salad-worthy (sigh). 19 years and I still have so much to teach him!

We got a little tomato plant too and I made tacos the other day and used fresh tomatoes! Yummmm! Not terribly authentic I fear but yummy nonetheless.

Margaret: you have to get a little container garden going on your balcony.
Sara: tacos are awesome, no need to doubt your authenticity.

Does anyone else think it is weird that I just keep rubbing the tomato plant and smelling my hands-it just smells so good?!
